Best Top Round Roast Recipe – an amazing journey of flavor

Top Round Roast Recipe
The top round roast can be a bit tricky to cook but using the methods seen in this video recipe, you are in for an amazing treat!

INGREDIENTS (to taste)
1 top round roast (size will vary)
Worcestershire sauce
Black pepper
Cilantro
Parsley
Onion powder
Paprika
Thyme
Rosemary
Oregano

This amazing round roast recipe is great when cooked in the oven as seen in the video. However, you may wish to try it on the smoker or grill if at all possible. Add some smoke flavor and you will be rewarded with an additional layer of amazing flavor.

An important key to this recipe comes in allowing the roast to come to room temperature before the cooking process begins. Much like a steak or other cuts of meat, cooking from room temperature means a reduced cooking time which ultimately leads to less opportunity for drying the meat out during the cooking process.

A generous amount of Worcestershire sauce as a base is important. From that point, packing on the seasonings is what will give you an amazing flavor base. You may use the same seasonings as seen in the video or come up with your own blend. Searing the meat in a hot pan is the next step which locks in flavor and gives a nice crust to the outside of the meat.

I prefer to cook my meat to medium but you may wish to cook your meat to a different level of doneness. Below is a chart of oven / grill temps to achieve your desired level of doneness.

2.5 to 4 pound – 325 degrees - 135° (rare) 155° (medium)

4 to 6 pounds – 325 degrees - 135° (rare) 155° (medium)

If you desire a well done roast, simply take your roast to 160 degrees or above.

HINT FOR USING A GRILL / SMOKER – If you wish to achieve the tenderest roast, lower the cooking temperature to 250 – 275 degrees and cook indirectly. This will allow for a longer cooking time, but the reward will be worth the wait!

In order to add an additional layer of flavor, I suggest adding some sort of liquid to the meat around 130 degrees. This may be done in a pan or by wrapping the meat in aluminum foil. Allow the meat to finish cooking after pour the liquid of your choice (I used root beer) directly over the meat.

Once your roast has reached the proper temperature (be sure to use a temperature probe or instant read thermometer to check temperature of the meat), leave wrapped in aluminum foil and allow to rest for 30 minutes to one hour.

Slice and enjoy!
